Common Questions
Welcome! If you’re newer to Crossroads, you might be asking yourself a few questions. Let us help.
What time are services?
Services are at 7:45 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. Our 7:45 a.m. service takes place in The Loft upstairs. It is a smaller more intimate setting and has a little bit of a traditional feel. Our 9:15 and 11 a.m. services take place on the main level. These services are larger and more contemporary.
How long is the service?
Our 7:45 a.m. service typically lasts less than 60 minutes. Our later services last anywhere from 75 to 90 minutes. Our services typically include four songs of worship, a skit, message, communion and offering. As our service concludes, we sing one last chorus and then the service is dismissed.
During our time of offering, it is our hope that visitors feel no pressure to give. Offering plates are simply passed down the rows. Please feel free to pass the plate. During our time of communion, again, trays of juice and bread are passed down the rows. If you are a follower of Jesus, you’re invited to participate.
Do I need to be prepared for anything?
Crossroads is guest-friendly. We want to give people the space and time to decide if Crossroads is for them. However, our pastors do hope you’ll introduce yourself following the service and we hope you receive a warm welcome from those around you.
What about the kids?
Crossroads offers a nursery for infants and toddlers and children’s programming for children ages 3 years to 5th grade during our 9:15 and 11 a.m. services. We know there are times when parents prefer to keep their children with them. On those occasions you are welcome to use our cry room located next to the entry way restrooms. We have a student worship service for kids grades 6-12 in The Loft upstairs at 11 a.m. Need help getting to the right place? Stop by our Guest Center or ask one of our greeters. They are here to assist you. Learn more about our nursery and programs for children and youth.
Where’s the choir?
Crossroads doesn’t have a choir but we welcome and encourage everyone to lift up their voices in songs of praise to our Lord. Our style of music is reflective of what people listen to all week long. You’ll notice that at Crossroads, church isn’t just a Sunday thing, but something we do all week long.
Why aren’t more people dressed up?
At Crossroads, there’s no dress code. We want people to come as they are. If you’re comfortable worshipping in a suit and tie, please do so. But, if that doesn’t feel like you then we want you to feel comfortable in your blue jeans too. After all, 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “man looks at outward appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Is it okay to laugh?
Oh yes! And, we hope you do. Ecclesiastes says there’s a time for everything including a time to laugh. We like to have fun and we like to be real. We want church to be something people look forward to each week.
Can I have a donut?
You betcha! Crossroads serves free donuts and coffee between our second and third services at the back of the gym. This is a time to hang out and meet others.
How did this church get started?
The Christian Evangelizing Association of Kansas is always looking for places to start new churches. The CEA’s mission is to ensure that people have access to Bible-preaching churches that are designed much like the churches of the first century—free of creeds and man-made teachings. Shawnee was identified for such a church back in the early 1990s. Brad and Colette Fangman started Crossroads in 1995 with the help of the CEA. Since 1998, Crossroads has been a self-supporting, independent Christian church. Read more about our history.
